2024 Christmas Gift Guide

Gifts of Comfort and Joyfor our persecuted Christian family this Christmas

As we celebrate our Savior’s birth, let’s also remember those around the world who are persecuted for their faith in him. Join us in praying for them and fellowshipping with them this holiday season. We invite you to consider how you can bless these bold believers who follow Christ in the world’s most difficult and dangerous places to be a Christian.

The Gift of HopePersecution Response

You are invited to show your care for our persecuted Christian family members by providing for their physical and material needs.

During a season set aside for celebrating the birth of our Savior, our persecuted Christian family members often suffer increased persecution for the sake of his name.

“Every Christmas and Easter, officials usually arrest some Christians,” said a front-line worker in Iran, “but this year the number went way up.”

In Burkina Faso, Islamic militants attacked a Christian family the day after Christmas in 2022. The attackers shot into the family’s home, killing four young people and injuring two others before setting the house on fire. They also stole some motorcycles and burned those they did not take.

As our brothers and sisters in hostile areas and restricted nations endure persecution for their faith, we can let them know they are cared for and loved by the global body of Christ. Your support sustains them in their suffering and encourages them to stand firm in their faith.

Your gifts to Persecution Response may be used to assist with living expenses, children’s educational needs, vocational training or other needs. Here are some ways gifts to Persecution Response have been used to help persecuted Christians:

  • Caring for Christian widows like Yasmine, whose husband was shot to death in Burkina Faso when Islamists attacked the town where he pastored
  • Helping Christians like Gertrude and Kimboti regain spiritual and emotional wellness after enduring and witnessing violence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
  • Providing living expenses for the families of Christian prisoners in nations like Vietnam, China and Eritrea
  • Assisting with legal fees for front-line workers like Rajiv, a pastor in India who is facing charges under the country’s anti-conversion laws
  • Providing school fees for children of Christian martyrs, like Salome, whose mother was killed by Marxist guerrillas in Colombia because of her bold witness to Christ

Bring Light to the World’s Spiritually Darkest Places

This Christmas, you can share the gift of God’s Word in hostile areas and restricted nations.

Your gift will help send Bibles to those desperate for the truth of Scripture, like Rabyia, a young Muslim girl in Pakistan. When Rabyia met a front-line worker who was distributing Bibles in her community, she asked him for a copy. She took it home and began to read it, starting in Genesis and reading through to the New Testament. When she read about Jesus in the Gospels, she felt confused because it differed from what she had heard about Jesus in the Quran. Then, one night she had a dream in which she heard a voice tell her, “This is my Word. Read it.”

She awoke from the dream with a newfound hunger for God’s Word.

“From that night, I am reading the Bible regularly and it gives me peace in my heart,” she said. “When I read about the life of Jesus and about his miracles from the Gospels, it completely changed my mind and my life.”

Christians in the world’s most difficult and dangerous places to follow Christ are asking for God’s Word, despite the risks of owning a copy. This Christmas, you can help fulfill their request!

Together, we can make sure every Christian in a hostile area or restricted nation has his or her own Bible.

Christmas Blessings for Front-Line Workers

You can bless our Christian brothers and sisters who are working to advance God’s kingdom in the world’s most difficult and dangerous places to follow Christ.

Working in hostile areas and restricted nations can be lonely and difficult. It’s vital that front-line workers know their fellow believers are partnering with them in prayer and investing in God’s work alongside them. A pastor in Colombia said it well: “I know we have brothers praying for us around the world. Your prayers are what keep us in these hard places.”

When you give to support front-line workers, your gift meets unique needs like these:

  • Motorbikes for evangelists like Paing in Myanmar, who travels hundreds of miles to reach remote villages with the Good News of Christ
  • Portable audio equipment for church leaders like Gonzalo in Colombia, who meets in homes with his church members because Marxist guerrillas forbid Christians to gather for worship
  • Solar-powered projectors for front-line workers in Africa who show the JESUS film in remote villages to those who have never heard about Christ
  • Training materials for Christian leaders in China who are unable to receive formal seminary instruction under the Chinese Communist Party

Your gifts have put ministry resources in the hands of church leaders around the world, including Richard and Abednego, two pastors who serve in remote areas of Tanzania. In spring 2024, these pastors met with VOM workers at a distribution of Village Outreach Kits. The regions in which these kits — sometimes called “Pastors’ Libraries” — were distributed have been among the last to receive any form of aid or support for many years.

Global Fellowship

Every aspect of VOM’s work serves our persecuted brothers and sisters in Christ, from providing immediate and ongoing help to being a voice for them among the global body of Christ.

When VOM workers meet with persecuted Christians and assure them they are not alone in suffering for their witness, they are encouraged as members of God’s family. And when Christians read, watch or listen to the testimonies of our persecuted Christian family members, many are inspired toward a deeper commitment to Christ and his Great Commission.

When you give to VOM’s Global Ministry, you are addressing all ministry needs, like the following:

  • Assisting Hadjara, from Niger, whose children stopped giving her food because of her faith in Christ. VOM helped her purchase goats, a cow and land for farming. She is now able to provide for herself.
  • Replacing transportation for Param, a pastor from India whose motorbike was destroyed by radical Hindus. They had warned him repeatedly to stop hosting prayer meetings and visiting homes. He has a vision to reach 70 villages in the next five years.
  • Providing a study Bible to Efosa, a pastor from Benin whose destroyed church was rebuilt with help from VOM. Efosa said the study Bible has helped him understand God’s Word better.
  • Publishing stories of persecuted Christians in print, video and audio formats to bring the global body of Christ into closer fellowship with them.
