Overview:

Persecution is associated with tribal violence and the rise of radical Islam. Despite identifying publicly with a particular religion, an estimated 90 percent of Sierra Leoneans are aligned with secret societies that dominate all aspects of life in the country. These societies practice demonic rituals that include bodily mutilation of society members. Those who leave secret societies when they place their faith in Christ are persecuted and even risk being killed.

Prayer Requests:

  • Pray that the gospel will reach the 50% of Sierra Leoneans who are Muslims and 37% who practice ethnic religions.
  • Using Acts 16:16-18 as a guide, pray that traditional religious shamans will be set free by the power of Jesus Christ.
  • Pray for teams showing the JESUS film in remote locations where many people cannot read.
  • Thank the Lord for small churches that stand firm despite pressure from Islamists and secret occult societies.
  • Pray that Christians will feel close to God, according to Romans 8:35-39, even after their homes are destroyed.
