Session 4Leap Year
Petr, a Christian from the Czech Republic, had been sentenced to life in prison in Sudan. Held in a crowded cell with a half dozen hardened ISIS fighters and sympathizers, he received brutal beatings--and worse--from his cellmates.
Richard Wurmbrand was abducted from a street near his neighborhood, tortured, imprisoned for 14 years (3 of which was in solitary confinement). Sabina was imprisoned as well for her obedient witness.
These faithful Christians chose to respond with love rather than retaliation toward their persecutor, and prayed for them.
- What would be foremost in your thoughts and feelings if you faced what Peter, Richard and Sabina faced? Why?
- In such circumstances, when grave peril looms over every breath we take, what do you think is the secret (that Petr, Richard and Sabina demonstrated) to remembering and obeying God's Word?
- What are your thoughts about the impact our biblical choices versus responses from our human nature have on people who do not know, follow, or even believe there is a God? (like Petr, Richard, and Sabina's guards and cellmates)
As we close Session 4, pause and pray.
- Ask God to give you an unquenchable hunger for the Word of God - that you will read and memorize it like never before.
- Ask God to provide encouragement to our brothers and sisters in Christ who are imprisoned for their bold and faithful witness - that they may have access to God's Word, either in written form or from what they have memorized.
